Kal Ho Na Ho

Kal Ho Na Ho was released in the year 2003 and is a bollywood tragic movie directed by Nikhin Advani. The film was produced and co-written by Karan Johar. Hal Ho Na Ho is a bled of Hollywood and Bollywood conventions and is also inspired by Anand and Dil Chahta Hai.

Kal Ho Na Ho is also known for its cast. In this film Jaya Bachchan played the role of Jennifer Kapur, Shahrukh Khan as Aman Mathur, Saif Ali Khan as Rohit Patel, Preity Zinta as Naina Catherine Kapur Patel, Reema Lagoo as Aman's mother, Ketki Dave as Rohit's mother, Sonali Bendre as Priya (Aman's doctor) and Jhanak Shukla as Gia Kapur. There were other charcters who were known for their special appearance.

The soundtrack of Kal Ho Na Ho was released on 6 October 2003 in different formats. TThe music for the film was composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. The title track known as "Kal Ho Naa Ho" was the most popular song and it won the Zee Cine Award Best Track of the Year.


It also helped Sonu Nigam to win the Best Playback Singer Male at the Filmfare and at the National Film Award ceremonies. Other than this, the rights to Roy Orbison's "Oh, Pretty Woman" were bought for use as the title of one of the songs.

Kal Ho Naa Ho is the story of three friends who have unconditional love and emotional empathy for each other. The setting of the film is in New York in present times. Naina Catherine Kapur (Preity Zinta) has a sombre life. The main cause of this is a family tragedy which had shattered her world and took her happiness away. As a part of her daily routine includes chores in her half Punjabi-half Catholic household. Here she has to deal with her short tempered grand-mother and look after her little sister and brother. It also includes helping her mother Jennifer in the family's financial troubles.

Things change in Kal Ho Na Ho with the coming of Aman Mathur [Shah Rukh Khan] in their lives. He is a friendly person and befirends them. He brings love in the life of Naina in the form of Rohit(Saif Ali Khan). They fall in love and life is hunky dory for them. Happiness is short lived as they come to know that Aman sufferes from cancer. They are socked to hear this and sad as well. However Aman keeps on smiling and also enjoys their wedding. He dies in the end after their wedding party is over.

Kal Ho Naa Ho received a number of awards and nominations. Some of the Filmfare Awards won by the movie are Best Movie, Best Actress - Preity Zinta, Best Supporting Actor - Saif Ali Khan, Best Supporting Actress - Jaya Bachchan, Best Music Director - Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Best Lyricist - Javed Akhtar, Best Male Playback - Sonu Nigam for "Kal Ho Naa Ho" Best Scene of the Year and Moto Look of the Year - Saif Ali Khan.

In the IIFA AwardsKal Ho Naa Ho received the awards like the Best Movie - Yash Johar, Best Actress - Preity Zinta. In the National Film Awards, it won the National Film Award for Best Music Direction - Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer - Sonu Nigam. In the Star Screen Awards, this film was awarded with Best Supporting Actor - Saif Ali Khan. There were various other categories for which this film got awards.
