The Filmfare magazine is one of the leading film magazines in India that offers news and gossips related to the Bollywood film industry. Filmfare is published every fifteen days in India. The owner of Filmfare magazine is Worldwide Media, with a 50:50 joint venture between The Times Group and BBC Worldwide. Primarily, it is a film magazine that satisfies every film needs of the Indian film buffs. Filmfare boasts being the oldest Indian film magazine. It is reputed as the number one entertainment magazine in entire India. Apart from being famous in India, Filmfare is also widely owned by those Indians staying outside their motherland.
Filmfare Awards
As Filmfare magazine is known as India's oldest film and entertainment magazine, so is the Filmfare Movie Awards esteemed as the oldest Bollywood Award ceremony. It is the prominent film events, currently, for Hindi Bollywood films in India. This awards ceremony was introduced for the first time in the year 1953. The award ceremony is distinguished as the one where the awards are decided and given after a nomination by both the public and a panel of experts.
In 1953, the readers of Filmfare magazine were polled for deciding the winners in the award categories. More than 20,000 readers all over the country participated in the polls. Trophies were awarded to the winners on the basis of popular vote. There are four categories of awards: Popular Awards, Critics Awards, Special Awards, and Technical Awards. These major categories include several sub-categories in which the winners are awarded. There is also the Filmfare Awards South for the movies in the Tamil, Malaylam, Kannada, and Telegu languages.
Content of Filmfare Magazine
Every edition of the Filmfare magazine consists of Bollywood news, movie reviews, film gossip, star interviews, movie database, star posters, and other information on Bollywood movies and classics. With stunning glossy front covers, colorful snapshots of stars, posters, and sometimes free introductory samples of products attached to the magazine - Filmfare has become a favorite of all Bollywood buffs. In the year 2005, Filmfare and Femina, in company with many minor brands, underwent a split off into a subsidiary. 50% of this subsidiary is sold to BBC Magazines.
From 2007, Filmfare has brought a new look along with some added sections till the beginning of 2008. The current editor of the Filmfare magazine is Jitesh Pillai. Some of the popular article writers in this Bollywood magazine include Sangeeta Angela Kumar, Anurada Choudary, and Faheem.
