Before we embark on the actual growth of Bollywood Over The Years, its important to know about the history of Bollywood and its phenomenal growth over the last few decades. Historical facts indicate that Hiralal Sen and F.B. Thanawalla were the two Indian pioneers engaged in the production of short films in Calcutta and Bombay in 1900. In 1902, J.F. Madan and Abdullah Esoofally launched their film career with Bioscope and in 1912, N.G. Chitre and R.G. Torney made a silent feature film called Pundalik.

Bollywood over the Years has seen loads of innovative measures undertaken by people coming from different fields of music and cinema. In this case, special mention needs to be made of Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, known as Dada Saheb Phalke was responsible for the production of India's first silent feature film titled Raja Harishchandra which paved the way for the birth of the Indian film industry. Reel life movies were made from the real life incidents and this practice is still valid and has with the passage of time attained bigger dimension. Bollywood over the Years especially during the 60's and 70's saw a greater change with the rise of stardom of few actors especially in the mainstream cinema.

Also movies of the 50's such as Gurudutt's Pyaasa, Kagaz Ke Phool and B.R. Chopra's Kanoon left an unprecedented mark in the minds of young audience. The following Years of Bollywood saw the upcoming of new realm of movies as Rajkapoor's Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai, Sangam, Dilip Kumar's Gunga Jamna, Gurudutt's Sahib Bibi Aur Gulam, Dev Anand's Guide; Bimal Roy's Bandini, S.Mukherji's Junglee, Sunil Dutt's Mujhe Jeene Do and the experimental Yaadein, Basu Bhatacharya's Teesri Kasam, Pramod Chakravorthy's Love in Tokyo, Ramanand Sagar's Arzoo and Sakhti Samantha's Aradhana set a trend of their own. Thus, Bollywood Over The Years had its own significant mark.
