Bollywood’s Influence on Indian Society

The lion's share of population in Indian society belongs to the middle class people. So, to understand Bollywood's influence on Indian society, one must get into the details of infrastructure in this society. Entertainment is the main purpose of all the Bollywood films and this is because of the fact that people need refreshments from these movies. After the long day's hard work, common people need something which will make them forget everything in the mundane world. This is the main reason why Hindi films contain exotic elements. These elements include spectacular locations, exaggerated violence and romance, melodramatic themes and many others. Bollywood's influence on Indian society can be noticed in different areas. They are as follows:

Fashion and Bollywood:

Bollywood made movies are some of the main sources for the fashion ideas. It is very common in India to notice kinds of dresses that are available in the market after the release of some hit movie. The young generation not only follow the costumes worn by the heroes and heroines but also the hair styles of theirs. Many reputed fashion designers work in the movies. So, they also release some of the designs in the market as well. This adds to the attraction of the dresses. India is country full of festivals and it is very common to watch people dressing up in designs that have been made popular by the films.

Social Matters:

Bollywood movies, although being melodramatic, have close insights into Indian society. Many of the super hit films have dealt with social evils and the ways to fight them out. The heroes, or sometimes the heroines are shown to be fighting for truth and justice. Corruption in the Indian society has been reflected in many films along with the disclaimer that characters of those films had not been taken from any real facts. Some films have even focused on the terrorist problems in this country. Maniratnam's “Roja” is one of these movies and “Bombay” by the same director on the other hand, focused on the communal problems.

Personal Problems:

Bollywood's influence on Indian society can also be noticed in people's personal life. There are some of the films like “Izazaat”directed by Gulzar, “Arth” by Mahesh Bhatt and many others deal with personal affairs in people's life. These Bollywood films also focus on family infrastructures in all the economic classes. Watching these movies is learning about the Indian society and all the intricacies which are involved in this infrastructure.
